Citrons doux (GHA Records) CD seul

CD

Presse

The magnificent artist Roland Dyens (born in Tunisia ) tells us with his remarkable CD full of contrast, color and expression a wonderful story. His playing is of a delicate sensibility with admirable understanding for harmony, rhythm, served with a beautiful tone. He presents us the widest range of music-styles with taste and brilliant guitar-techniques. Being well-known for his improvisations, it is a delight to hear some fine compositions such as Torija from Federico Moreno Torroba and Agustin Barrios Valse no3 being played with a fresh interpretation. Dyens' Hommage a Frank Zappa is of an incredible penetrating force and serves it's name right. In big contrast to that, is his Valse des Loges, smooth and seductive, reminding us of A. Barrios compositions but with a modern touch. Indifference from Tony Murena is wonderful refreshing and jolly, again in big contrast with the piece that comes next: Mes Ennuis by the Spanish composer Fernando Sor. The program continues with Flying Wigs from Roland Dyens, a small and pretty piece that leads to the Valses opus Posthume 69 no1 and 2 from Frédéric Chopin, like the Mazurka opus 68 no4 written originally for the piano but convincingly transcribed for guitar by Roland Dyens himself. Chopin is followed by Courante and Aria by the Baroque composer Silvius Leopoldus Weiss, again amazing how well the pieces follow each other up and how well Dyens is capable of changing styles. The last piece is an interesting ending to this colorful CD it is the title composition: Citrons Doux from Roland Dyens a repetitive and almost recitative piece with an appealing melodic bass and beautiful harmonies.
