31/05/2017 - Nanterre (France), Maison de la musique - Ensemble TM+, Laurent Cuniot (conductor)
Régis Campo's Street-Art, performed here by the ensemble TM+ conducted by Laurent Cuniot, welcomes contradiction, creating tension like art music discoursing with popular forms, or using sophisticated playing modes for expressive spontaneity, perhaps inherited from a composer like Ennio Morricone whose influence on him was crucial. Greater tension is created by the intersecting of different systems that are already open to multiple influences (from Steve Reich, John Cage and Gérard Grisey to Leonard Bernstein), or by heterogeneous musical climates moving from unambiguous violence to extreme sweetness, from teasing vivaciousness to muffled tenderness. The work mirrors our constant adjustments to the contingencies of urban contexts, where we live under several regimes, all running at different speeds and in different playing modes: the frenzy of our everyday tasks, bustling about, alert and concentrated, to moments of contemplation, sensual or sadly nostalgic.
