Bringing an instrument tutor to fruition is an expression of the author's desire to distance himself from traditionally accepted educational concepts. This project draws on experience acquired through close contact with students. The lessons in the present volume are thus based on the results of an uncompromising teaching method and the author's own conception of a progressive approach. The different aspects of study have been deliberately split up to make the course more enjoyable. In depth exploration of the embouchure comes first, followed by the learning and mastering of the most commonly used range of the saxophone through musical texts which, as they do not present any rhythmic difficulties, favour expression.
Finally the introduction of more demanding places to develop musicianship.
Each lesson is structured around a short place for ensemble (duo, trio or quartet) which provides the opportunity for working together through the discovery of music of the past and present. Some ensemble music also calls upon other instruments and so encourages exchanges between different classes.
