The Electrics attempt to create sound spaces that bind a soloist and a live electronics system in a particular relationship. With the Electrics, I have tried to define ideal interactivity, that sound connection or area of conviviality, musicality and playfulness, inspired from the perspective of a chamber musician, that brings two musicians together, in this case the soloist and the computer. An interactive, creative and entertaining space, which allows the soloist to construct a personal progression of electronic soundscapes to be manoeuvred through as desired by creating their own individual paths through the "open form" score. The computer program "listens" to every "E" played by the flute, a pivotal note that polarises the piece, acting as a relay for interactivity with the computer. The soloist's microtonal variations, dynamics and timbre on each "E" are analysed immediately. In response to these parameters, electronic transformations are constructed. The instrumentalist thus has constant control of these transformations through his mode of playing.

Florence Baschet

The Electrics are mixed electronic pieces with the goal of acquainting instrumentalists (professionals and advanced students) with contemporary extended instrumental techniques incorporating a system of live electronics, this system being controlled by the soloist's playing techniques. As of today, there are two Electrics, one for saxophone and one for flute.
