This composition is inspired by the festejo, one of the most popular afro-Peruvian folkdances.
One of the characteristics of this musical genre is the combination of binary and ternary structures shared by the melody, the bass and the percussion.
Norberto Pedreira was born in 1960 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and as young boy developed a keen interest in popular Latin-American rhythms, flamenco, jazz and the study of harmony. All these elements can be heard in his compositions today, right from his first trio in 1984 performed in Buenos Aires, and in other musical events in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Uruguay. The last twenty years have witnessed his involment in music teaching, and he has created method centred round improvisation.
