1772 - Henry Lemoine & Cie, des générations de transmissions musicales
A 250-year family adventure
Standing beside my father, I remember greeting the guests of our bicentenary ceremony at Cercle de l'Union Interalliée in 1972. Back then, I was a 14-year old boy who would have never imagined that his future children, Hadrien, Hugues and Hector, would do exactly the same, 50 years later, at our 250th anniversary ceremony at L'Atelier des Lumières. Music has always been the torch that this family continues to pass on from one generation to the next. It is therefore an honour and a privilege to present to you this book, which provides an account of our heritage, from the creation of our publishing house in 1772 to the present day. Since the beginning, our vocation focused on giving to all musicians the opportunity to practice their instrument, and to all music lovers to hear new original works. One thing remains buried in this historical perspective, however: the discreet and humble stories of trusting relationships, which have been forged over time and over generations, between the Editions - their successive directors and collaborators - and all the authors and composers whose works constantly enrich our catalogue. It is precisely to all these creators, past, present and future, without whom the mission of the Editions would be meaningless, that I dedicate this book.
