BABA Noriko

Born in Niigata (Japan). After obtaining a Master's degree in composition at the University of Fine Arts in Tokyo, Noriko Baba continued her training at the CNSM in Paris where she obtained a Prize in composition with honours and in orchestration, while also studying acoustics, analysis and ethnomusicology. She also studied acoustics, analysis and ethnomusicology and took part in the composition and computer music course at Ircam. Several grants such as Akiyoshidaï International Art Village, Sacem, Artist in Residence at the Schloss Solitude Academy in Stuttgart, Académie de France in Madrid (Casa de Velázquez), Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto, and the support of confirmed performers - the ensembles 2e2m, Court-Circuit, Ascolta, L'instant Donné, l'Orchestre Pasdeloup, Intercontemporain, Cairn, Next Mushroom Promotion, Nomade, Ives, Neue VocalSolisten - have enabled her to develop extremely sensitive and expressive works behind its apparent economy of means. She was awarded the Second Prize in the NHK-Mainichi Composition Competition, the Grand Prize for International Composition at the Takefu Festival.
