JACOB Dom Clément

1906 - 1977

Maxime Jacob, or Dom Clément Jacob was born on January 13th, 1906 in Bordeaux. He was composer and organist. He studied at the Paris Conservatory with Charles Koechlin and André Gedalge. Appreciated and encouraged by renowned composers such as Henri Sauguet and Maurice Ravel, he got to know Darius Milhaud and Erik Satie, he was a member of the Ecole d'Acueil. In 1930, Jacob converted from Judaism to Catholicismand became a Benedictine monk. Then he studied organ with Maurice Duruflé, as well as Gregorian chant. He died on February 26th, 1977 at Abbaye En-Calcat (Tarn) in France.
