MOUQUET Jules

1867 - 1946

The composer Jules Mouquet was born in Paris on 10 July 1867. He studied harmony and composi­tion at the Paris Conservatoire before being awar­ded the Grand Prix de Rome in 1896 for his cantata Mélusine, followed by the Prix Trémont in 1905 and then, in 1907, the Prix Chartier for chamber music. In 1913 he was appointed professor of harmony at the Paris Conservatoire, and wrote a Cours complémentaire d'harmonie.
Most of Jules Mouquet's compositions are for wind instruments - flute, oboe, clarinet and saxo­phone - and his best-known work remains the symphonic poem La Flûte de Pan op. 15, for flute and orchestra. He also wrote oratorios, including Le Sacrifice d'Isaac and Le Jugement.
Jules Mouquet died in Paris on 25 October 1946.

 

Der Komponist Jules Mouquet wurde am 10. Juli 1867 in Paris geboren. Er studierte Harmonielehre und Komposition am Pariser Conservatoire und erhielt 1896 für seine Kantate Mélusine den Rom-Preis, 1905 den Trémont-Preis und 1907 den Chartier-Preis für seme Kammermusik. Er wurde 1913 zum Professor für Harmonielehre am Pariser Conservatoire emannt und verfasste den Cours complémentaire d'harmonie. Jules Mouquet komponierte die meisten seiner Werke für Blasinstrumente - Flote, Oboe, Klarinette und Saxophon. Sein berühmtestes Werk ist das symphonische Gedicht Die Panflote, op. 15 für Flote und Orchester. Jules Mouquet ist ausserdem Autor von Oratorien (Isaaks Opfer, Das Urteil).
Er starb am 25. Oktober 1946 in Paris.
