After performing a guitar concerto, simply repeating a single movement is not necessarily the best encore, and so I decided to array Tango en skaï in evening dress. On every occasion it has provided two and half minutes of sheer fun for the musicians and great enjoyment for the public, for whom the music is as joyful as it is unexpected. Nothing works so well as these few moments of playful humour to take the stuffiness out of the stifling concert atmosphere that can sometimes kill music and emotion. To cook this elegant little Tango, all you need to do is run through it two or three times with the orchestra for guaranteed success.
