14/11/2015 - Clermont Ferrand (France), Festival Musiques démesurées, Théâtre le Petit Vélo - Christophe Desjardins (viola)
This piece is in the great tradition of Lamenti by Monteverdi, Purcell, Britten (Lachrymae), or, more recently, Tadeusz Baird's Concerto lugubre.
This is not, of course, a matter of an aesthetic relationship but of the viola's capacity to express the lament and its relation to the voice.
Two elements, one percussive, the other melodic, are going to answer each other, develop, and interfere throughout the piece to the point of giving it a polyphonic dimension, such as Berio envisaged in his Sequenze.
