Although once attributed to Mozart, it is now thought that these pieces come from various sources. The authorship of the Adagios especially remains unknown. It has been said that Mozart might have transcribed the Fugues but no autographed manuscript or copy attests of it. However three of them belong to the Wohltemperiert Klavier book ("the Well-Tempered Keyboard"), a fourth one is taken from the Trio-Sonate No 2 in c minor BWV 526 for organ and the 6th one being may be by W.E. Bach.
This present edition of the transcription of the Adagios and Fugues (bowings and articulations) proposed by the Borsarello String Trio is the result of their understanding of the pieces and a choice to respect the source as well as the original style. Dynamics, often missing in music at that time, have been left out voluntarily, leaving freedom to the interpreters.

The Borsarello String Trio is composed of three brothers from a family of musicians. They each graduated from the Paris Conservatory: Jean-Luc on the violin, Jacques on the viola and Frédéric on the cello.
Established quite a few years ago, the Borsarello Trio has added to its repertoire and in 2000, for the 250th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach's death, they recorded all of the Adagios and Fugues for string trio.
A deep understanding of these pieces led to approaching Delrieu Editions about their own revision of the Adagios and Fugues as well as a score of them, which to this day did not exist.
