"Henry Lemoine's publication of a volume of Romances by the Spanish vihuelistas (27807 H.L.) has proved to be an excellent initiative. These ballad-like songs tackle epic, lyrical and dramatic subjects. The album includes all of the twenty-two sunviving Romances for vihuela and voice, arranged by subject matter. Marc Bataïni's transcription for guitar and voice follows the principles laid down by Emilio Pujol and Ruggero Chiesa, and gives the original keys of the pieces. In some cases an alternative transcription is suggested.
The layout is extremely clear and includes useful fingering, while notes concerning the editor's decisions, the bibliography and performing advice contribute to make this a worthwhile edition".
